Question of the Day:

How do you try to find things that you misplace?

If I lose something, I’m really adamant about retracing my steps and trying hard to find it. This is the opposite of my husband, who just goes out and buys a new one. Drives me crazy!

This makes me think that they lose them purposely. Kind of like, “Oh honey. I LOST my darn cable..Going to have to buy another one.”

  2. Nicole said,

I retrace my steps as well, and try not to get mad. I tend to lose stuff a lot, especially my keys. Last week I looked all over for them and couldn’t find them any where. They were still in my car. 😦

I lose a lot more lately than I used to…probably because I have more stuff crammed into my head than in days of old. Sometimes I just say screw it and let it stay lost because I don’t want to bother with it, but if it’s important, like my keys or phone, I first have that little moment of panic where I cuss a lot…then I calm down, dump the contents of my purse out, and then eventually (usually) find it on the bedroom dresser.

I have a bad habit of laying stuff down in odd places, like taking off my glasses because I was sweaty and putting them on a storage shelf in the shed. So my strategy is to work concentrically searching every flat surface in my house, then car, then wherever I’ve been in the last 24 hours, etc.

I lost a watch that I really liked a couple of years ago. Never have found it.

And no, I didn’t just go buy a new one. 😛

      • Samkon said,

        Did you check the shed?

i usually race around shuffling thru every nook and cranny all frantic and angry. there is usually some kind of urgency to find whatever it is that’s lost-most likely because it’s making me late to something. eventually, if i can’t find it, i’ll try to simmer down and retrace my steps.
more often than not, i’m helping dan find something HE lost, and we both get kinda fussy about it.
the worst is finding the missing object on top of some random but illogical cabinet or piece of furniture! ugh!

  6. Shannon said,

I’m one of those fastidious people who always puts stuff in the same place, so I seldom lose things like keys, my cell phone, etc. They are always at the end of the bar in my kitchen, where I put them whenever I empty out my pockets. For this reason, if I do lose one of these everyday items it is devastating to me. I search for these items by retracing my steps, but only after recuperating psychologically.
I do often lose items that are not used every day, and I often find them days or weeks after I actually need them.
