Question of the Day:

Have you ever dyed your hair? Why or why not? Any crazy colors?

No, of course not! What a silly question.

Yes. I’ve dyed my hair since I was a sophomore in high school. Well, that was highlighting. Now I dye my hair out of necessity, just the same brown color I’ve had forever. Yesterday I saw this shiny hair in the mirror and I looked and looked…Until I found it…A 4 inch gray hair. On my head. I can’t wait until my sister is here next weekend. She will be dying my hair and fixing this disastrous hair cut I received two weeks ago.

I’ve done crayon red, which faded to a weird pink, that the Cracker Barrel management team disagreed with. In college, I tried dying it purple but it ended up being an odd eggplant color.

My hair hasn’t been its original color since I was about 15… 🙂

The weirdest color was an accident. I wanted to be blonder, and the lady made it so white it was sort of grey. At that point, I decided I would solve this problem myself with box color. It ended up being a weird pinkish orange color after the box color. Eek!

I started dying my hair when I was in 7th grade. It’s been red, black, almost blonde, orange, purple, and every different shade of brown. Who knows what my natural hair color would be now? It might be gray.

Oh, I didn’t really answer the “why” part. Basically, I was bored. It was fun to change things up a bit, and my parents didn’t care. “It’s just hair,” they would say. Now, I continue to dye it because I think it just looks better…like a car with a fresh coat of paint on it. My hair seems all shiny and new with a fresh coat of dye on it.

I’ve highlighted my hair a couple of times, once with blonde and a few times with red, but only very light highlights. I like the color of my hair, and mostly I just can’t be bothered with the time it takes. I’ve acquired a few gray hairs in the past year and I don’t dye those or even let my stylist cut them off (he likes to trim gray hairs at the root). They don’t bother me.

Once when my hair was very short, I died it dark blue just for fun. I didn’t bleach it first, and my hair is dark brown so I knew it wasn’t going to be blue, but I hoped it would have sort of a blue undertone. It did not – it just looked slightly darker and less shiny than usual.

    i’m with u natalie!
actually, as a late teen i played around with temporary colors, “enhancers” they were called-till i accidentally “enhanced” my hair to strawberry shortcake red for halloween, and it didn’t wash out.
that began my color experiements. i put temporary brown over the strawberry shortcake, which created a nice dark auburn color (my natural color, minus all the gray i now have, is reddish brown) but when my new growth came in i had “reverse” roots cause my hair was so much lighter.
i called a few salons, and they all said it would be hundreds of dollars and they’d have to cut my then waist length hair to my chin and it might turn green or orange.
i called my mom crying, she said go get 3 boxes of nice n easy, and come on over.
she fixed it-matched my senior picture exactly-she’s amazing.

since then i’ve always just dyed it varying shades of red-either a little lighter or little darker than natural, sometimes with highlights, etc. lately, i’ve been playing with funky true red and almost black-and yes, it fades fast like kelly said, so it’s a maintenance nightmare, AND kids comment on it in stores, and that embarrasses me! danno keeps saying how much he likes it tho, so i’ll keep it up for now i guess.
WHY? it’s fun, and like natalie said, fresh color just feels awesome! AND hair is usually more managable with color on it, and my hair is rather unmanagable most of the time

I’m letting nature slowly dye my hair. It’s already gotten a spot on my beard. I’m going from reddish-brown to gray/white. It might take a while though. I guess the reason I’m doing this is because it’s the natural thing to do.
