Question of the Day:

What is one good thing the internet has added to your life?

More information. One bad thing? More information.

Online shopping…which, like the overload of information on the net, can also be a bad thing.

An answer to every single question I have, even if I don’t want to read it.

    Mommy blogs. Don’t laugh.

Online banking. I’ll have you know it took all my willpower not to mention something adult-themed.

Google. Everything Google. Gmail and my Gmail contacts has become my replacement for actual personal contact with actual people. My day revolves around my Google Calendar. I have dozens of documents, from my budget to creative works of personal reflection, saved to Google Docs. And now, Google Voice! The best phone service available, period.

Yes, I find that my life revolves more and more around the great and all-knowing Google.

When I have a question, Google it.

When I need directions, Google it.

When I am struggling with a personal issue and need a shoulder to lean on, Google it.

Social networking. I know, social networking sites are imperfect and kind of silly, but I have reconnected with people that I lost contact with years ago, and strengthened friendships with acquaintances through myspace first and then facebook.

My brother-in-law (who is a cop, and has a tendency to think only about worst-case scenarios like internet stalkers and etc.) said at dinner this Sunday that he wished facebook had never been created and that it was “nothing but trouble”. I found it interesting that both of my sisters jumped to the defense of the site, naming people they know who used it for support and help when they were having problems. Especially interesting since one of my sisters isn’t even on facebook.

Every song/album/band I’ve ever wanted. No more trips to used record stores in Columbia or Lawrence looking for that rare bootleg. Everything I’ve ever looked for online, I’ve found. And that is amazing.
