It would have to be the day that I got such a bad migraine that I laid my head on my desk for a second, closing my eyes and hoping it would go away. When it subsided, I lifted my head and opened my eyes, but everything was still completely black. The migraine had caused me to go blind temporarily. I had to be escorted from Spanish class to the nurses office by two other guys from class. It was the strangest and probably most terrifying moment I had in high school. Eventually, after laying on the padded table in the nurse’s office for an hour, asleep, I awoke and could see again. Later, my doctor told me that the headache was most likely brought on by stress, which I attribute to adjusting to the culture shock of southwest Missouri after moving from the south side of Chicago at age 14, leaving all of my closest friends behind.

I still talk to my best friend from Chicago, Shane. Since graduation, I practically have not spoken to anyone I came to know at Monett high school. And I have not gone blind since.

High school was really just one long awkward moment for me.

Ditto. Hard to pick a “most awkward” moment.

I had just learned to dive, and decided to show off my skills at the city pool, which was the only summer hangout in my town. Unfortunately, I didn’t feel my bikini top come completely loose and got out of the water thinking I was hot stuff. People still talk about it, and probably still refer to me as “mosquito bites.”

    I know, TMI.
