    I love documentaries. I can’t pick a fave. Recently I really like:

Food, Inc. – Made us decide to go as organic as possible with Nick.

Business of Being Born – I watched this while pregnant. Even though Nick’s birth was nothing near as natural as I wanted, I still think this movie is amazing.

Religulous – Bryan and I saw this at the Moxie. This movie made me feel like I wasn’t living on this planet all by myself (as being in the Bible Belt often does).

Last week we watched Ringers: Lord of the Fans, a documentary about people who get really into…and I mean really really into…Lord of the Rings. While probably not one of my favorite documentaries, it definitely was a good one.

I’ve never heard of Ringers. Based on this description, I have got to check it out!

I tend to like documentaries that are about a culture of sub-culture, so my favorites are:

Devil’s Playground – about the Amish period of Rumspringa, because it’s a culture I’m not that familiar with.

Better Living Through Circuitry – about rave culture, because it’s about a culture that I was only barely familiar with, and also about a culture that is mostly non-existant now.

Trekkies – about Star Trek fans, because it’s about a culture that I am very familiar with (and for all that a lot of Trekkers dislike this film, it’s pretty accurate).

I meant “a culture OR sub-culture”, not of. I need a peer editor over here!

    gotta love dropkick murphy’s.
i don’t watch all that many documentaries, but i do like to watch movies about writers i love, like Gonzo, and Bukowski: Born into This. I keep meaning to watch Leonard Cohen, I’m Your Man. I know i’ve watched some documentaries and really enjoyed them, but i can’t think of any.

I have seen some good ones – but the two that have stuck with me are

Waco: Rules of Engagement (about David Koresh)

    and

Paradise Lost: The Child Murders at Robin Hood Hills

    both – haunting.

Just saw the world premiere of Camp Victory last week (or was it this week, I don’t know) here at South by Southwest, and it was really amazing.

Now that I’m done bragging – Jesus Camp.
