Jeremy Enigk and Damien Jurado 6/11/2008 Cafe Du Nord, San Francisco

I was out traveling a week or so ago and I knew that Damien Jurado (one of my all time favorite folk artists) was playing an acoustic show in San Fran. I wanted to go, but I did not think anyone else I was traveling with would be totally into it. So I checked the date again and I saw that Jeremy Enigk (of Sunny Day Real Estate fame) was headlining the show and I knew I had to be there. My wife was awesome enough to come along and I think was pleasantly surprised by the show.

Jurado played a flawless and quiet set, saying nothing between songs, letting them speak for themselves. This is the 3rd time I have seen him and it has always been good. I was able to say hello after the show, he was sitting with his wife selling his latest release. I also got the above snapshot with him which I was really excited about.

Enigk came out looking as enigmatic as ever, with his baritone speaking voice yet somehow shrill angelic singing taking over when the music started. The guitar was direct and his voice in top form, he even took time to perform some SDRE classics like ‘In Circles’ which the crowd loved. I think the event as a whole was really neat because it was housed in this basement cafe that was the perfect setting for this show.

Both of these guys are a must see in a live setting. Next time they are near you, just go, you will not regret it.
