The name of my first pet (that I remember, my dad loved bringing home strays) was Ginger. She was a baby beagle when we got her. She was beautiful. Every time I see a beagle now (just the other day I saw one actually) I say “Hi, Ginger.” πŸ™‚

Last night, Tim and I went to Red, Hot, and Blue with Kevin and Kim. We had fun and I think Kael has his first baby crush on Emma, too!

My first pet was Zip. She was a cockapoo (cocker spaniel/poodle). She was the best and smartest dog ever! Mom got rid of her only set of puppies the week I came home from the hospital. As I learned to crawl and climb, I’d get on the couch, holler at Zip and she’d run over, lay at the edge of the couch, I’d roll off the couch onto her and do it all again. She lived to be 14 years old. I still miss her.

Oh, I love this question. My first pets were two geese (this explains a lot, right?) named Lavern and Shirley. πŸ™‚

So far I’m two for two on the pets listed. I have a Beagle named Gretchen, and a Cockapoo named Macy. Who else? Bring ’em on!

My mother rescued everything, so I am very used to having/ignoring animals around the house. In addition to goats, ducks, chickens, rabbits, a pig, and geese (and 3 dogs) we also would randomly have a baby deer in the basement or a turkey egg in an incubator. This is not a joke. And wild turkeys can never be domesticated, btw, just in case some uncle of yours runs over mama bird with a tractor and you think you want to rescue a nest full of eggs. No, cute little baby bird will eventually turn on you, jump on your back, and peck the living bejeesus out of you. I foresee you learning this at about age 6.

I did something fun last night – I watched TRON!

The first pet I can remember is a dog named Trixie. Trixie’s name evolved from “Tick” because when we first got her she was covered with gigantic ticks. Because my dad was in nursing school at the time, he was fascinated with removing the ticks with surgical clamps and putting them in a jar under the sun to see what would happen to them.

Trixie got hit by a car.

and what happened to the ticks in the sun?

The blood they’ve drank boils and they blow up.

My first inside pet was little Foxy. She’s 10 now and starting to show signs of age. 😦

My first outside pet was Snowball, a white lab/mutt. He was a good ole dog. I’m not sure what happened to him…we lived in the country so who knows…could have been anything from a snake bite to getting hit by a car.

Last night I played with Nicholas and watched So You Think You Can Dance…yes, it’s a dumb show, but for some reason I’ve always liked it. It’s probably the music.

The first pet was an orange tabby cat named Roscoe. It was an outdoor barn cat Dad brought home from work one day. Apparently the little fellow rode to work in the engine compartment of someone’s car and they found him in the parking lot. He always had an adventurous, untamed spirit about him–he’d come around in the afternoon looking ruggedly smug to eat, nap, or whatnot before leaving again.

I couldn’t figure out why he would leave until a stray black cat showed up one day and had a litter of orange kittens.

My parents had twin white Standard Poodles when I was hatched. Buffy died of some unknown malady before I became self-aware; Bambi, who moved in with my grandparents when I was an infant, lived to be – I swear! – like 28. I know she was still alive when I went off to college.

My first real pet was my mutt, Bear, that I got in the 5th grade. Owning a dog named Bear is much more logical than owning a bear named Dog, I suppose.

The first pet we had that was “mine” was Abbigail Joe, a burmese/stray mix who looked COMPLETELY siamese except for a little white patch on her belly and an underbite.
In fourth grade my friend Estara’s (yep, cool name) cat KiKi had a litter of kittens, and Abby was the runt. I dragged her around with me everywhere, to my grandma’s each day during the summer (cause mom wouldn’t let me stay home alone all day yet, etc.) She hated my mother, and most everyone else, and she loved to sit on the edge of the tub when I took baths.
When I was in 8th grade we moved and lost her for an entire year. We searched the neighborhood for her every day… finally an old neighbor called and said she thought Abby was in her crawl space. Sure enough it was Abby (underbite, white belly patch, and still hated my mom.) She was never the same tho, she was TERRIFIED of thunderstorms after that, and a little crazy. She used to howl at the ceiling sometimes and splash in the water bowl after that. Not sure what she saw.
She lived to be about 20 years old, and I just had to have her euthanized 3 years or so ago. We buried her under the honeysuckle bush in our yard that my sister gave me for a birthday many years ago.

Oh, I sat on the phone with ATT tech support for an hour last night! Good times good times! (that’s another phrase i overuse btw.)

My first pet was a black kitten with white paws named Mittens. I don’t remember much about Mittens, because she died before she became an adult cat, either got run over or attacked by a dog – I can’t remember.

My childhood is actually full of pets that died too early. My next two pets after Mittens – a cat named Socks and a dog named Snow – died in under a year. Meanwhile my sister’s dog Honey – Snow’s sister – lived for almost 20 years, lived so long that by the time she died, my sister had married and moved out.

Now that I’m an adult, I have two cats that are both over 10 years old and are living very comfortably, indoors only. My veterinarian often tells me “you take such good care of your cats!” She’s not aware of all the trauma of previous outdoor-pet deaths that have brought me to where I am today.

It stormed last night here as well, late. I wonder if we got the same storm system you had. I stayed at home last night, preparing a pattern and fabric for a sewing project.
